Wrangled

This sentence from my friend Kate is becoming quite familiar, "I don't see it, but I'm sure you'll do something with it that will change my mind."  I am met with that phrase time and time again, especially when holding up shirts such as the one above whlie we peruse endless racks at the thrift store.  It's ok. No sweat. I love a challenge! There is a fine line between, "so ugly it's cool." We can all walk it successfully.

Shirt: Vintage Wrangler blouse. I am beyond digging that cut-out near the collar! Salvation Army

Skirt: Vintage wool pleated skirt with high waist Saks Fifth Ave. from Salvation Army

Coat: Vintage leather trench with fox collar, Goodwill

Boots: Ankle high flat mod boots vintage Liz Claiborne from Vintage Vogue, Indepence Missouri

Belt: Vintage turquoise from ebay

Necklace: Multi color glass claw from Volunteers of America. I love the drama of putting it on an extra long chain.

Not quilty...

Ahhh quilt clothing.  It conjures up images of craft fairs filled with silver haired women hawking wooden dolls and personalized wares with your name spelled out with those little dotted balls at the end of each letter. (Sounds like my kind of place!)  I picked up this quilt vest about a month ago at the Salvation Army, I showed it around and got the kibosh on it from pretty much everyone I know (especially the boyfriend!)  I vowed then and there to show'em all, it COULD be cool gosh darnit, it...COULD! It's all about accessorizing and doesn't Chanel make everything cooler anyway? I thought so.  Does the vest make the cut? Is it "So Ugly it's Cool?" or do I restrict myself to only wearing it to the Ohio Historical museum where the old ladies will "ooh" and "ahhh" over it and tell me that they made they grand daughter one just like it a few years ago, come to mention it, whatever DID happen to her vest? ;)

(PS-Almost everything for this outfit, 99% came from the thrift store. The earrings too can you believe? The jeans are the only exception.)

(PSS- How interesting is my cat object d'art that lives in front of my fireplace? Quilts for any surface? Oh yeah! I have a strong inkling Gloria Vanderbilt would wildly approve.)

Quilt vest: Salvation Army Columbus OH

T-shirt: I always keep my eyes peeled for mens vintage t-shirts, they are thin and sublime! Goodwill Columbus OH

Jeans: AG from AG store in NYC

Shoes: Got these immaculate 1960's green patent shoes from the Salvation Army last week! eek! How amazing!

Handbag: Same deal, found these with the shoes, it was a really great day at the thrift store!

Earrings: Chanel from Volunteers of America Columbus OH. I know you hate me, right?

Sunglasses: Goodwill Columbus OH

Don't worry...they bite

Cheetah shoes.  Cool to some, ugly to others.  So ugly they're cool to me! Those fierce little eyes called out to me from the shoe rack at the Salvation Army, "Jaymie! Come run through the tall savannah grasses with us!" I listened, and we agreed that pounding the pavement would be just as acceptable as savannah grasses-phew! These flats would obviously pair uber easily with denim but I wanted to have a little fun so I decided to use the pattern aztec/tribal dress (also from the same Salvation Army!) and brought some high-low action with the magnificent addition of the vintage YSL necklace.  The fox tail on the clutch adds that certain something, no?

Shoes: Cheetah flats ($1.99!) from Salvation Army Columbus, OH

Dress: Vintage full circle skirt also from Salvation Army Columbus, OH

Necklace: Vintage YSL

Clutch: How Roberto di Camerino is THIS?! From the Goodwill! Fox tail $6.99! From Driftstone Pueblo and keychains from Kid Robot NYC.

So ugly it's cool? Decide amongst yourselves!

Bunny Talk

"So Ugly It's Cool" is fast becoming a favorite section of mine, after all, I feel like it's what I do everyday.  Case in point I bring you "Bunny Talk" a fabulous little Spring sweater that caught my eye in a Volunteers of America about a month ago. (Please note those telephone buttons! and pom-pom tails!) I knew this one would be a challenge in a wearability but I think I made it work, do you?

Sweater: Volunteers of America Columbus OH.

Jeans: I just cut off the hem of these with pinking shears and I think it makes them so much fresher! I can't wait until they get their first wash and start to fray!

Handbag: New favorite! I picked this up yesterday from Ohio Thrift in Columbus OH.  Vintage Etienne Aigner doctors bag, I want to carry it 24-7.  The hardware is fantastic!

Necklace: One of my own creations from 2004 I believe.

Shoes: Ralph Lauren Purple label

Belt: Men's woven leather belt Goodwill Columbus OH.

Socks: Blue tie-dye Nordstrom
